Aquavit has been the most distinguished Scandinavian restaurant in the country since opening its doors in 1987. Moving to a new home on 55th Street between Park and Madison Avenues brought the creation of a dazzling main dining room, bar/lounge, and private space.
Essential Communications ensured that the musical ambience in the new spaces was up to Aquavit's sophisticated standard of excellence. A highly specific set of install guidelines was welcomed by the NYC A/V firm, which takes an extremely detail-oriented approach to each project. "Traditionally," says David Schwartz, President of Essential Communications, "Aquavit has always been about the dining experience. But in the new location, they also expanded the bar and lounge in addition to the main dining room, where a formal jacket is required. They wanted everything to sound better in all those areas.
"We took extra care with evaluating different types of speakers and their placement here, because the architect was adamant that these components not be visible. That called for a very high level of cooperation during the building phase, with a lot of meetings -- the bottom line was that this system had to be heard and not seen."
Schwartz and his team specified flush-mounted Tannoy loudspeakers with a Rane digital multi-processor at the heart, to address the multi-zone requirements of the new Aquavit space. "They have the café, bar/lounge, and main dining room," Schwartz notes. "They also have the ability to play different music sources in every room, as well as control the volume in each one of them. In addition, we installed a projection screen in the restaurant's private dining room, making it an elegant but versatile event space."
Icons of the restaurant world, both in NYC and nationally, are catching on: Essential Communications is up to the challenge of taking their audio and video to the next level. |
